Plaza de las Luces (Plaza of Lights) in San Juan, Puerto Rico, houses five WET-designed water features. The municipality of San Juan sponsored the feature under the administration of Sra. Sila M. Calderón, who went on to become Governor of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. The plaza is a large, open pedestrian space, framed by a baseball stadium and a concert arena, the Roberto Clemente Coliseum. All five water features are based on compositions of continuously flowing nozzle jets, but each has a distinctive design. Spaced throughout the plaza, the five features are visible from one another and add a sense of continuity to a large and densely pedestrian plaza. The features combined have changed the Plaza de las Luces from just a pedestrian crossing into a safe, enjoyable, urban venue.
