When The Mirage began a major redesign of its hotel and on-site attractions, WET was invited to transform the resort's iconic volcano feature into a more primal experience. The new Mirage Volcano bewitches visitors with the urgency of its rhythms and the brilliance of its physical presence, bringing a powerful convergence of sensory stimuli to the Las Vegas Strip. Come show time, a force of 120 FireShooters™ launches choreographed fireballs high above the three-acre lagoon. The largest FireShooter™, housed at the peak of the volcano, punctuates the performances with 50-foot high eruptions, sending waves of heat through the atmosphere and across the audience. This powerful fusion of water, fire, and light is accompanied by an exclusive musical composition by Grateful Dead drummer Mickey Hart and tabla master Zakir Hussain. The pair studied the myths and rhythms of volcanoes for the commission, and the resulting piece lends the virtual tectonic activity a heightened sense of immediacy and drama. As crowds descend on this choreographed eruption, it's clear that the Mirage Volcano is more than an earth-shaking event; it's a vital social nexus for the Strip and greater Las Vegas.
