As the Gas Company Tower attracts attention amongst the myriad of skyscrapers in downtown Los Angeles, so does the building’s lobby via the main entrance fountain. Just beyond the lobby doors, in a narrow exterior corridor, thin rows of low-lying water bulbs alternate with exposed strips of shallow reflecting pools. These rows cleverly flow beneath a glass wall into the lobby, transforming the floor into a fountain walkway directly underfoot—the water now bubbling underneath slabs of glass. Fiber optic lighting complements the choreographed patterns of surging water, resulting in a tranquil ambiance for this sophisticated high-rise.
